CHIETI
This town lies few kilometres from the Adriatic sea, with the Gran Sasso and the Maiella in the background.
It is a Roman founded town which later became an important medieval centre.
Visit the Cathedral of S.Giustino with its precious frescoes and beautiful belltower; the Churches of S.Francesco and S.Giovanni Battista and the Archaeological Museum (exhibits include the famous Warrior of Capestrano, an Italic statue from the 6th century BC).
Also interesting: the remains of the Roman baths and three small Roman temples.
