VIBO VALENTIA

Vibo Valentia was the ancient Hippònion in Greek times.

It offers many interesting attractions such as the Angevin castle, the 14th-century cloister in the church of the Rosary and the Renaissance church of San Michele.

Also noteworthy are the Byzantine temple of S. Ruba, the ruins of an old Roman baths and the remains of a 6th-century Greek acropolis.

The church of S.Maria Maggiore hosts the remains of the patron S.Leoluca.

In the Museo d'Arte Sacra, exhibits include bronze figures from the charterhouse of Serra San Bruno.

The Museo Archeologico Statale displays finds from the protohistoric period, objects from the necropoles, fragments of Roman statues and mosaics.
