Naples ::.
Capri This glamourous island is located in the Bay of Naples. The island's beauty comprises high cliffs, bougainvillea-shaded pathways, sparkling white houses, tiny squares, and narrow medieval streets hung with flowers. Capri town is full of both elegant shops and craftsmen workshops. The very center of town is the Piazza Umberto I, known as the Piazzetta. Have a visit at the S.Stefano baroque church and stroll through the Via Roma.Not to miss: the Certosa di S.Giacomo, the Belvedere Cannone, the beautiful environment of the Arco Naturale and the grotta Matromania. From the Belvedere di Tragara you'll have a view on the famous Faraglioni, three huge, pale-ochre limestone rocks that loom out of the sea on the southern coast. A unique place is the spectacular Grotta Azzurra; the cave's walls shimmer in blue tones; as the light shining through the water fills the cave with blue reflections. The Grotta may be visited by boat trip, but you may also have an unforgettable swim. Another interesting site is the Villa Jovis of the Roman Emperor Tiberius, reachable by a 50 minutes walk that climbs gradually from the Piazzetta. Higher up in the hills, from the small village Anacapri you can take a chairlift to Mount Solaro, one of the island's highest peaks. Also in Anacapri is the exotic Villa San Michele, which houses the art collection and spectacular garden of the Swedish doctor Axel Munthe. |
