This town is full of art treasures, such as the outstanding Civic Gallery (Pinacoteca Civica) housed in the Palazzo Merenda.
In the central square is the Basilica of San Mercuriale daring back to 1181 when it was buit on an earlier church. On Piazza Saffi, there are the 15th-century Palazzo del Podestà and the Palazzo del Municipio.
The imposing Duomo hosts the Assumption, a fresco by Carlo Cignani.Palazzo Gaddi, an 18th-century residence houses several of the city's museums.
