BERGAMO
Bergamo is made up of two cities; Bergamo Alta (inside the Venetian walls) and the more modern Bergamo Bassa connected by a funicular railway.
The heart of town is Piazza Vecchia with the 12th century Palazzo della Ragione, the Torre Civica, Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo Nuovo.
The Duomo hosts works by Tiepolo, Juvara, Giovanni Battista Moroni and others.
Don't miss the Basilica di S.Maria Maggiore decorated with 14-17th century frescoes. At the side of the Basilica is the Cappella Colleoni with its pink marble facade and frescoed by Tiepolo.
Other sights include S.Michele al Pozzo Bianco, the fomer monastery of S.Agostino, the fortified citadel, the Rocca and the Museo Donizettiano (dedicated to the famous composer).
