On the southeastern tip of the Como lake, this is the birthtown of Alessandro Volta.
Visit the Gothic cathedral with its dome by Filippo Juvara and side altars with canvases by Guadenzio Ferrari and Bernardino Luini.
Also interesting: the Romanesque basilica of S.Fedele and the 11th century Sant'Abbondio with a cycle of frescoes from the 1300's.
Among the examples of rationalist architecture, for which Como is famous; the Monument to the Fallen by Terragni-Sant'Elia, the Casa del Fascio and Palazzo Novocomun.
