CREMONA
Birthtown of Claudio Monteverdi.
Among the interesting sights: the Duomo, with frescoes from the Cremonese school; the Loggia dei Militi (sort of medieval town hall); the Torrazzo (the 111mt high bell tower of the Duomo); the Romanesque baptistery dressed with pink marble and a richly decorated Baroque altar inside; the Palazzo Comunale with canvases by Genovesino, Cossali and Boccaccino; Sant'Agostino (with many paintings, including one from Perugino); San Michele Vecchio (one of the oldest churches in town with frescoes by Benedetto Bembo).
San Sigismondo, a few km out of town, is a Bramantesque style abbey with cloister and refectory.
The church hosts frescoes by the main Renaissance painters of Cremona.
