Loreto
Loreto is visited every year by thousands of pilgrims who come to see the Santuario della Santa Casa.
According to legend, Mary's house was carried here from Nazareth by Angels, and then was enclosed in the sanctuary.
The construction of the basilica began in 1469 under the supervision of many famous architects like Bramante, Sansovino and Giuliano da Sangallo.
The house is enclosed in a marble covering designed by Bramante.
Don't miss the Sala del Pomarancio, formerly the treasury, frescoed by Sansovino.
