MACERATA

The heart of the city is Piazza della Libertą, bustling with students from the nearby University.

Visit the Duomo of San Giuliano, constructed in the 1400's and rebuilt at the end of the 18th century. Inside, it hosts paintings by bellini and in the sacristy a splendid triptych by Allegretto Nuzi.

The most famous monument in town is the Neo-Classical Sferisterio, a large arena now used for the Opera Festival.

Don't miss the Pinacoteca comunale with paintings by local artists from the 13th to the 18th century and works by Veneziano, Salimbeni and Pinturicchio.

Stroll through Corso Matteotti line with lovely palazzis, like Palazzo Consalvi and Palazzo Mozzi.
