Brindisi ::.
Ostuni One of the most stunning small towns of southern Italy. Situated on three hills at the southernmost edge of Le Murge, and an important Greco-Roman city in the first century AD, its old centre is a maze of white-washed houses, courtyards, narrow streets and alleys. The late-Gothic style Cathedral hosts 18th century paintings. The Santissima Annunziata Church is the oldest in ostuni, the interior is home to Veronese's Deposition. The Chiesa delle Monacelle has displays on prehistory, the highlight of which is "Delia", the skeleton of a pregnant young woman found in a crouched position, her bones decorated before burial. Also interesting: the Museo di Civiltą preclassiche della Murgia Meridionale with finds from the Paleolithic to the Greek period. |
