Travel and Tourism Information
FOGGIA
Foggia lies in the centre of the Apulian Tavoliere.
Modern town, as it was heavily bombed in WWII.
Foggia's most important treasure is the Cathedral Santa Maria Icona Vetere, built in 1162 but with Baroque additions. The church hosts a byzantine Madonna icon (legend claims it was found by shepherds in a small lake from which came three fires) and a beautiful crypta.
Also interesting: the local Pinacoteca as well as the enchanting baroque Calvario Church.
The Museo Provinciale di Storia Naturale, recognized by the Unesco for its scientific value, exhibits over 1,000 birds, mammals and molluscs.
