Oristano ::.
ORISTANO Founded in the XI Century, it became the capital of the Giudicato of Arborea in 1070. Visit Eleonora D'Arborea's house in Parpaglia Street, where the city's oldest and most traditional inn is also located. The Cathedral was built in 1228 and rebuilt in Baroque style. It has an octagonal bell tower, an onion dome with majolica tiles and a marble balustrade. You may also visit the Tesoro del Duomo kept in the charter house. Corso Umberto is lined with interesting buildings such as Palazzo Sivier and Palazzo Falchi. Oristano also houses the important Antiquarium Arborense Museum, with its numerous findings from the Nuraghic and Roman Ages. Other interesting monuments in the historical centre include the church of S.Domenico, the church of S.Chiara and the Chiesa del Carmine. |
