ENNA This town in the mountains at 948 mt above sea level is also called “Belvedere della Sicilia”. The Duomo was rebuilt in Baroque style, but maintained its gothic apses. The interesting Alessi Museum houses the Duomo's treasury and the collections of the Canone Alessi - 17th and 18th century sacred vestments embroidered with gold thread and coral; selection of paintings. The Museo Archeologico hosts Greek, Roman and Byzantine coins and an assortment of archaeological finds ranging from prehistoric times to the Late Middle Ages. Among the other sights there are the Castello di Lombardia which looks out over the valley; S.Michele Arcangelo, S.Francesco d'Assisi, S.Marco, erected on the site of an old synagogue, Palazzo Pollicarini and the octagonal Torre di Federico II in the public park. Don’t miss a stroll in the Quartiere Fundrisi with its typical single-storey houses. |
