Piazza Armerina

Piazza Armerina

This town was inhabited since the 8th century.

Visit the medieval Castello Aragonese, the Palazzo del Senato with its Baroque facade and the 17th century Duomo which hosts an interesting choir from 1627.

The most famous sight of Piazza Armerina is the Villa Romana del Casale, a unique archaeological site, an agricultural estate of the 3rd-4th century AD.

All rooms of this private residence were decorated with mosaics: you may visit the peristyle, the so-called Corridor of the Great Hunt representing the capture of wild animals, the Frigidarium baths with mosaics of mythical sea creatures, the Room with Girls in Bikinis, the atrium with a mosaic which depicts the legend of Arion.
