Noto

Noto may be considered the capital of the Baroque style and boasts of interesting churches and buildings.

Visit the Cathedral of San Nicoḷ which stands at the top of three flights of stairs, Palazzo Ducezio, the Holy Crucifix, the Monastery of SS. Salvatore, S. Francesco (also at the top of a Baroque staircase), S. Domenico, Santa Chiara (by Gagliardi).

Palazzo Nicolaci di Villadorata has incredible grotesque sculptures; Via Nicolaci, is called the street of balconies; worth a visit also San Carlo al Corso and Palazzo Trigona with frescoes by Mazza.

In Noto' surroundings visit the necropolis of "Noto Antica" and of "Castelluccio", the archaeological finds of the Greek town of Eloro, the sanctuaries of S. Corrado Fuori le Mura and of S. Maria della Scala, the rupestrian and Byzantine oratories.
