Bolzano ::.
Merano Merano lies in a large south-facing valley and is one of the most famous mountain resorts and the second-largest town of this region. Popular for its spas, thermal waters and moderate climate. Once a fashionable destination for the aristocracy of Central Europe. Visit the Gothic Cathedral of San Nicholas, the Castello Principesco (residence of the princes of Tyrol from 1450) and the Museo Civico. Interesting are the Liberty/Art Nouveau style Kurhaus and bridges. There also are 62 km of promenades, such as the Passeggiata d'Inverno, the Tappeiner, or the Passeggiata Estiva which winds among exotic plants. The Merano Valley is dotted with historic castles, such as the 12th century Castel Tirolo with 14th century frescoes or the Castel Fontana which houses the Museo Agricolo. |
