CARRARA
Carrara is the most important world centre for the excavation , working and commerce of marble.
Located at the foot of the Apuan Alps, nestled in the middle of green hills.
It has a Romanesque-Gothic cathedral, the Malaspina building which houses the town's world-famous Fine Arts Academy and several 17th century buildings looking onto the central Piazza Alberica.
Don't miss the interesting Museo del Marmo which shows the methods of excavating marble through period photographs and old quarrying machinery.
